Fish Junkies Ltd.

Logo Design

Fish Junkies Ltd was formed in 2010 and was based on the fishkeeping industry. They wanted a themed logo that would be easily recognised throughout the industry.

This task was an enjoyable experience, probably because the outcome turned out to be a well-received logo. The first task was to create some sort of symbol that would work with the company name. The company stressed that they didn’t want the logo to be directly aimed at one part of the industry, so targeting well known fish such as goldfish, koi carp, clownfish etc. wasn’t the direction they wanted to go.

So I played around with basic shapes in illustrator to create an almost abstract look and finally pulled it back in with a cartoony twist. The result turned out well.

The next part was finding a suitable font that didn’t detract from the strong visual character that was going to accompany it. The font Bauhaus really just sempt to jump out of my font list. It’s a strong bold font with a hint of quirkiness to tie in with the crazy company name.

I felt because of the fish being a demanding space hogger, I felt the need to try various arrangements to suit different situations. The top logo for example would be well suited to a letterhead, or business card. Also, I believe that in certain logos, it’s good to have a versatile logo that can be recognised not matter how its arranged. The key figure that makes you understand who the company is straight away… is the blue fish.
